Aboriginal Success is a program that was initiated following the findings made in 2011 regarding Aboriginal students at École Le Bois-Vivant. Through the program, resources and the number of students in the school’s daycare were increased in order to offer an early reading and writing program and free daycare for some Aboriginal students. A biweekly homework assistance program was also set up through the program to help students improve their academic performance and build their self-esteem. Furthermore, some 50 books in English on Aboriginal culture were purchased under the program to promote Aboriginal culture, and workshops on Aboriginal culture were offered to school staff. A liaison officer was hired to ensure Aboriginal culture was properly understood, particularly when report cards were handed out and Student Retention Committee meetings were held.
